Women
MOBC offers a number of opportunities for women to encourage one another to grow in the Christian faith. These include…
Walking Tall
Walking Tall is an outreach initiative for MOBC women and their friends. It is an opportunity to get together socially and to hear speakers from a variety of backgrounds and denominations.
Walking Tall events are held three times a year on a Saturday at MOBC in the Rivergum Auditorium. Our events are varied and sometimes have a theme. We plan one fundraiser per year and adopt a worthwhile charity or program outside our normal Church life.
In the past we have raised funds for breast cancer research, children with cancer, the scholarship program for Hope Street, a Baptist Inner City Ministry, and Christmas boxes for our missionaries.
Our events are informal, relaxed and are for women of all ages. They include lots of fun, give-aways, and special items of interest. We often include items for sale such as Nutrimetics, children’s books signed by the author, beaded jewellery and other crafts.
We are into our fourth year and some highlights from past events include a Pamper Night with Nutrimetics Consultant Kath Clarke, Christmas in July with Chef Rachel Billington of Neat Eats Catering, a Garden Party, and a Death by Chocolate evening.
We have had wonderful guests such as Carmelina Read, Ainsley Poulos, Joanne Traeger from FM 103.2, our own Baptist Minister Edwina Murphy. Dr Helen Rienits was our most recent guest speaker on the topic ‘Women, Stress and Chocolate’. This was an informative night, when we heard a great message contained within helpful heath hints on stress and wellbeing.
Walking Tall is the initiator of a new program for women using Dr Helen Rienits’ 10 week Bible study course which deals with depression. It is for those who are experiencing depression, have in the past, or who are closely associated with someone who is suffering this disease. Enquiries to Pastor Matthew Arkapaw.
Included in the Walking Tall calendar is the Equip Conference held annually in May at Sydney Convention Centre Darling Harbour and the Women’s Lunch/Morning Tea for Revive, the Baptist Convention that is held in September each year.
The Review
The Review is held once a quarter on a Saturday morning from 10-11:30am. This is a morning of discussing the deeper issues, as well as sharing some light ones… but it’s for the ladies only! (sorry guys) We read an article over brunch and then talk, share, laugh and debate… Past discussions have been “Great Expectations”, how do you deal when life doesn’t go the way we planned? and “What’s stopping you? Why we don’t evangelize and what to do about it”. The Review is enjoyed by women of all ages and every stage of life. And everyone is welcome.
