Who Dares Wins!

On Friday evening 24th September, MOBC hosted a Men’s Dinner event with special guest Brigadier (ret.) Jim Wallace AM. Jim is Managing Director of the Australian Christian lobby, having had a 32-year career in the Armed Forces which included command of the SAS Regiment, Special Forces and the Army’s Mechanised Brigade.
Pastor Tim Burns interviewed Jim and the following is an extract of  some of the answers he gave:

On the Australian Christian Lobby:
‘The vision of the ACL is to see Christian principles and ethics being accepted and influlencing the way governments do business. The ACL is important to our increasingly secular country because it’s important for the church to influence politics. Abraham Kuyper said ‘There is not a single inch of the whole eternal domain over which Christ doesn’t cry, “Mine!” and if that’s true then He cries that out over governments, nations and everything. His people then should be saying, “Yours!”. In the ACL we don’t believe the church should be closested off in some separate part of society.’

On coming to faith in Christ:
‘I went to spend some time with some old mates who, unbeknown to me, had become Christians; they tried to convince me that I should accept Christ too. I said, “No, you blokes might need a crutch, but I don’t.” Then one of them said, “We can’t convince you that Christ came died for you. But if Christ really did come down from heaven and died this incredibly painful death on the cross to win you this great gift of salvation, don’t you think He’d be weeping over your rejection of this great gift that He is freely offering back to you?”
I went back to Duntroon but couldn’t get this image of Christ weeping over me out of my mind, so I got down on my kees and accepted Christ as my Saviour. No man or person has influenced me as much as Jesus. I’ve commanded some of the toughest blokes in the world in the SAS, and everygbody needs a crutch at some stage. If this is a crutch for us, we shouldn’t be ashamed of it. What I’ve found on a day to day basis is that Christ knows this “car” He made. He built the car, knows how many gears it has, knows what it can do in each of the gears and knows how far He can run it down without breaking it. If we put our hands in the Maker of the car, He can maximize the potential of the car and also the satisfaction for the car. So for me it has been a very fulfilling life.’

On the most important lesson:

‘We should never, ever forget that God is no man’s debtor – meaning, if we are prepared to step out and sacrifice something for Christ, financially, or in other ways, then He honours that sacrifice – GOD HONOURS!’
